“Skillful” Living
Proverbs Men is a new ministry that encourages men to be Godly Men, Men of Character and Integrity. To live as God wants us to live!
The Hebrew word for wisdom is “hokmah” implying skill and efficiency through training and experience. A carpenter, a stonecutter, and a shop keeper would have “hokmah” in performing his work; he would be skillful. The Book of Proverbs in the Old Testament is a book of wisdom. “hokmah” showing one how to live skillfully. Skillful living is how to live in a manner that shows training and experience. Most people learn how to live by making mistakes because no one has taught them; no one has showed them the way to live skillfully; ways to avoid dangers and pitfalls in life.
Proverbs 3 declares the value of wisdom and
offers promises to those who find her.
13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom,
the man who gains understanding,
14 for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.
15 She is more precious than rubies;
nothing you desire can compare with her.
16 Long life is in her right hand;
in her left hand are riches and honor.
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
James 1:5 says:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to him.”
